Farewell of the “Butterfly Hangar” at Frankfurt Airport. It was built at the beginning of the jet age and was the largest maintenance hangar in the world when it opened - and at true icon. It is replaced just one year later by the new A380 maintenance hangar.
World premiere: Lufthansa Technik Airline Support Teams travel within hours to literally any part of the world if a customer’s engine requires technical support.

Lufthansa Technik presents AVIATAR – the first product of the newly created business division Digital Fleet Solutions.
Ameco’s A380 maintenance hangar in Beijing is put into operation. With a length of 350 meters and a width of 110 meters, it is one of the largest hangars in the world, with room for four Airbus A380s at once.

In close cooperation with Airbus, Lufthansa Technik converts four Airbus A310-300 airliners into Multi Role Transport (MRT) aircraft for the German Air Force. The widebodies can be used flexibly as freighters, troop, or patient transport aircraft.
Lufthansa Technik officially starts operations as an independent company. In the first fiscal year, its 10,267 employees achieve an operating result of 61,355 million euros. 35 percent of its business is already conducted with external customers.

To meet rising demand, Lufthansa Technik is increasingly training people with a technical or skilled trade back­ground and is investing €7.5 million in a training center in Hamburg-Rahlstedt. This year alone, 376 new employees are trained there, and they are able to take on independent tasks in operations after just four to six months.
Lufthansa Technik converts the first Lufthansa cabins to comply with the airline's new corporate design.
Inauguration of the research and development center of the “Innovation” business division on the base of Lufthansa Technik Hamburg. 
For 640 million DM Lufthansa Technik purchases the land and buildings of its base in Hamburg that it had previously rented from the state.

Official opening of XEOS, a new aircraft engine service center located near Wroclaw in Poland.  The company is a joint venture of Lufthansa Technik and GE Aviation for the overhaul and repair of GEnx-2B and GE9X engines. When fully operational, it is expected to service more than 200 engines per year.
In a special ceremony at the ILA in Berlin, Lufthansa Technik hands over the final Airbus A350 government aircraft to the German Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg). Secretary of State for Defense Nils Hilmer officially puts the aircraft, registration 10+03, into service in the afternoon.
SEPTEMBER
Lufthansa and Boeing jointly celebrate their 50th anniversary of cooperation at the Lufthansa Technik base in Hamburg. Half a century before, Lufthansa had introduced its first jetliner – a Boeing 707-430. Lufthansa collects the first A380 at the Airbus plant in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. In preparation for this event, Lufthansa Technik employees invest some 24,000 work hours in outfitting the cabin of this first Lufthansa A380.
The world’s biggest and most modern noise protection engine test hangar opens in the Hamburg base. It is large enough to accommodate widebody jets.

Grand opening of the EME Aero 50/50 joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MTU. Based in the Polish city of Jasionka, EME Aero is a state-of-the-art MRO facility for the game-changing Pratt & Whitney PW1000G Pure Power geared turbofan engine series, which powers the Airbus A320neo and A220 as well as the Embraer E-Jet-E2.
As part of the ongoing renewal of the German government fleet, Lufthansa Technik hands over the first Airbus A340-300 to the German Ministry of Defense.
Lufthansa Technik continues on its growth path. Investments of well over €1 billion are committed for the coming years. The investments will be made in all three regions of the world – the Americas, APAC (Asia-Pacific) and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). In addition to the new hydraulic system already under construction, the construction of two further building complexes for VIP stores and equipment overhauls is planned for the home base in Hamburg.

Lufthansa Technik is the first company worldwide to receive certification for wireless LAN on board commercial aircraft.
With the integration of AVIATAR, AMOS and flydocs, Lufthansa Technik creates its Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem, which will drive the digital transformation of the aviation industry in the technical operation of aircraft. Swiss-AS, developer of the world’s leading M&E/MRO software AMOS, joins the Lufthansa Technik Group. By bringing AMOS, AVIATAR and flydocs, the digital records and asset solutions provider, under one roof, Lufthansa Technik can now offer unparalleled digital coverage of the tech ops value stream.
Nature as a role model: Lufthansa Technik and BASF bring sharkskin technology into series production. AeroSHARK, a surface film modeled on the fine structure of sharkskin, is used on Lufthansa Cargo’s entire Boeing 777 freighter fleet from the beginning of 2022, making the aircraft even more economical and lower in emissions.
Ground-breaking ceremony for two new hangars at Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen. The buildings, which double local capacity, are completed in early 2014, making the facility a strategic hub for MRO services throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Announcement of AirTrack: a satellite-supported three-dimensional topographic image system for in-flight entertainment screens for passengers.
The aviation industry in Hamburg is preparing to  fly with hydrogen. Supported by the Hanseatic city, Lufthansa Technik is working with DLR, ZAL and Hamburg Airport to design and test maintenance and ground processes for hydrogen technology. To this end, an Airbus A320 family aircraft is converted into  a stationary laboratory.
On behalf of the German government, Lufthansa Technik converts a Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 into the “Robert Koch” evacuation jet. This aircraft makes it possible to quickly evacuate infected patients from crisis areas.
Lufthansa Technik celebrates its 10th year as an independent company. At this point in its history, the company has established 27 subsidiaries or joint ventures.
The German civil aviation authority Luftfahrt Bundesamt (LBA) certifies the non-electric floor path guiding system Guideline, developed in-house by Lufthansa Technik. Today, this very successful product is known under the name GuideU.
With a celebratory ceremony at Manila Airport, Lufthansa Technik Philippines inaugurates a new hangar, adding three maintenance lines to the existing seven. The fourth hangar increases overhaul capacity by up to 20% and offers new prospects for over 275 employees.
The company turns 20. In the meantime, it services over 3,700 civil aircraft for some 800 customers worldwide. From the fall, the Puerto Rican overhaul hub caters for short-haul aircraft of the A320 family throughout the Americas.
German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel lays the foundation stone for N3 Overhaul Services in Arnstadt, Germany. The joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce specializes in the overhaul of Rolls-Royce Trent family engines.
Lufthansa Technik receives the status of production organization for aircraft parts (Part 21/G).
Lufthansa Technik conducts the world’s first performance-restoration shop visit (PRSV) for a LEAP-1A engine in Hamburg. The purpose of a PRSV is to return an engine to peak performance. With this visit, Lufthansa Technik becomes the first maintenance organization worldwide to analyze this engine under real operating conditions.
